In this episode, Hyde and Holbrook discuss three cases decided by the North Carolina Court of Appeals on January 7, 2026. In State v. White, No. COA25-470 (N.C. Ct. App. Jan. 7, 2026), the Court of Appeals found no error in the denial of the defendant’s motion to suppress when the police checkpoint complied with statutory and constitutional requirements. In State v. Leggett, No. COA25-288 (N.C. Ct. App. Jan. 7, 2026), the Court of Appeals concluded that videos of the defendant sexually assaulting his unconscious wife were authenticated by distinctive characteristics in the videos. And In State v. Phillips, No. COA25-275 (N.C. Ct. App. Jan. 7, 2026), the Court of Appeals rejected the defendant’s argument that his stalking indictment was defective and that the trial court erred in its instructions on assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer.
